Venom: Let There Be Carnage is a fast film, but I found it to be a bit sluggish and dragging in the first act. It’s establishing the dysfunctionality between Eddie and Venom even though it’s sillier and messier, however this slump makes the film suffer greatly and it never fully recovers. Although it does manage to find some sincere moments within its chaos and silliness, I just wish it had done that more, because Eddie’s and Venom’s relationship needed that.
The writing is… whatever it is, I just found that it’s themes of friendship and whatever get muddled and most of the characters in Venom: Let There Be Carnage aren’t developed enough, or the film just doesn’t make me want to care about them. However, I will say there was something very early 2000s Marvel movie about it, where I found myself enjoying certain elements
The third act tries to salvage things with a big CGI fight, a very cool fight might I add but it’s not enough. The lack of character development, the film wastes the talents of Woody and Naomi by never really allowing their characters to be explored more.
Overall Venom: Let There Be Carnage is a sillier, chaotic sequel to the first film, sometimes entertaining and sometimes boring but overall, an average film that only highlights the relationship between Eddie and Venom, while doing absolutely nothing for the bigger picture in terms of world building and such, and whatever little it does do, that’s very forgettable and basic. For a movie about friendship, I guess I wanted more cliché and cringe mess you know? Here it feels idk... uninspired.
