The Painted Bird (2019)
The Painted Bird.
What a magnificent film... but also what a dark and haunting film!
It's dark, poetic and violent. one of the darkest portrayals of humanity I have ever seen on film.
It's black and white imagery plants misery into our minds. it's also got moments of pure light, and those moments are evoking the good in people during the worst of times.
Václav Marhoul succeeds in both poignancy and aesthetics, The Painted Bird is layered and we watch this child go through this journey that's full of hatred, violence, rejection, vulnerability, poverty and war.
Fantastic stuff man, and am i weird for seeing this twice in the space of two days?
